I’m sitting behind an older man who is reading the Wall Street Journal. He has farted audibly twice in the last 5 minutes. The wood chair is amplifying the sound; thus, making it worse. This isn’t much fun. I might have to get up and sit somewhere else soon. At least it doesn’t smell. Still pretty gross though. Ok, good. He’s leaving now.

Enjoying an abnormally warm day on the coast over the weekend, I spent the day at a local beach with some friends. An hour into our stay, a broad-shouldered man and his wife moseyed down the trail and staked out a spot on the beach. In no time, the man had sucked in his stomach, stripped down to a snug speedo and sauntered into the frigid water, doing his best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression.

While certainly strange, it wasn’t as intriguing as a small seal which was playfully hanging out in the surf. Several people had gone up to the seal, watching him ride waves and trying to get his attention.

Meanwhile, Mr. speedo had made his way about 25 yards out to sea and was now making his way parallel to the beach. When he noticed people playing with the seal, he started making his way back into shore. Unknown to the seal, the man was slowly approaching directly from behind. When the man was about 5 yards away, the seal finally noticed him and immediately raised his head out of water and started heading towards the man. When the two got closer, the seal ducked into the water, out of sight. While slowly creeping back to the shore, the man appeared nervous, looking all around for the seal. About 10 seconds later, the seal popped up behind the man without his knowledge, almost playing with him. The man soon realized that the seal was behind him and quickly headed in, ending the fun for the day.

Apparently humans aren’t the only mammals turned off by skimpy swim wear.
